The Centre Pompidou
The Centre Pompidou is a multidisciplinary center dedicated to modern and contemporary art located in the 4th arrondissement.
It opened its doors in 1977 by the will of the French president Georges Pompidou, a great art lover.
Its architecture, which was highly controversial at the time, is now an integral part of the identity of this emblematic museum of Paris. The façade of the building, made of glass and metal, is crossed by the "Chenille", an exterior escalator allowing access to the upper floors. The back of the building is more eccentric: huge blue, yellow, green and red pipes are left exposed.
If you are visiting the Centre Pompidou for the first time, take a tour of the permanent collection. One floor is dedicated to modern art, another to contemporary art. The works are all more splendid than the others. Also take the time to look at the program before you arrive. The center always offers an extremely rich and varied program, in many disciplines. Exhibitions of course, but also film screenings, shows, concerts, conferences and debates punctuate the life of the center.
Before or after your visit, you can stroll through the streets of the Marais and enjoy its countless bars, cafés, restaurants and small stores.
