Musée d'Orsay

The Musée d'Orsay is located in the 7th arrondissement, along the left bank of the Seine. The museum was inaugurated in 1986 in the building of the former Orsay train station. It is a museum gathering works produced between 1848 and 1914.

This museum is quite magical by its impressive architecture which reminds the visitor that he is in a former station. After walking around the magnificent statues in the central aisle at the entrance, go into the side galleries and then upstairs.

The museum's permanent collection includes famous masterpieces such as Manet's Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe, Courbet's L'Origine du monde and Van Gogh's Portrait of the Artist. Very beautiful temporary exhibitions are also regularly organized.

The art of the 19th century generally touches most people, it is an easier art to apprehend than contemporary art for example. I therefore recommend the Musée d'Orsay in particular to people who are not necessarily used to going to museums and who do not know where to start.
