The Sacré-Coeur

The Sacré-Coeur is a church located at the top of the hill of Montmartre, in the 18th arrondissement. The construction of the building lasted 48 years, from 1875 to 1923.

Going to the Sacré-Coeur is first of all an opportunity to walk in the most picturesque district of Paris: Montmartre. Between two steep streets, there are still two 19th century mills and a vineyard. To cross the last few dozen meters separating you from the Sacré-Coeur, you can use the funicular with a normal metro ticket. At the top, a splendid panoramic view of Paris awaits you. Very often street shows are also proposed at this place.

From the outside, you can see the impressive main dome of the building, which rises to 54.94 meters and has a diameter of 16 meters. Two other smaller domes frame it. If you wish, you can also go inside. You can contemplate the different chapels, the organ, as well as the largest mosaic in France, located in the choir.
